Mines Strategy Optimal Mine Count and Cash Out Points
Where the multiplier comes from
Mines is a 5x5 grid, 25 tiles, with a mine count you choose. With 3 mines, your first pick is safe 22 out of 25 times, or 88%. The second is safe 21 out of 24, the third 20 out of 23, and so on. Multiply those together and you get the chance of surviving n picks. The fair multiplier is one divided by that number, and the house takes 1% off the top, so the payout is 0.99 divided by your survival probability.

Mine count and pick count are the same dial
This is the part most Mines guides get wrong. There is no "optimal" mine count, because mine count and pick count trade off against each other to produce the same ladder of multipliers.
- 3 mines, 5 picks: 49.6% survival, pays 2.00x
- 5 mines, 3 picks: 49.6% survival, pays 2.00x
- 3 mines, 10 picks: 19.8% survival, pays 5.00x
- 10 mines, 3 picks: 19.8% survival, pays 5.00x
Both routes to 5x hit about 19.8% of the time. Both routes to 2x hit about half the time. The only thing that changes your outcome distribution is the multiplier you cash at. Everything else is presentation.
Cash out targets that behave differently
At 2x you win slightly under half your rounds, so a losing streak of five feels normal and happens about 3% of the time. At 5x you are winning one round in five, which means stretches of eight or ten busts are routine. At the extremes it gets absurd: 1 mine and all 24 safe tiles cleared pays 0.99 / 0.04 = 24.75x, and a single mine still ends it on the last click. So does 24 mines with one gem, which pays the same 24.75x on the very first pick.
Pick the target that matches how many losing rounds you can sit through without changing your bet size. That is the whole decision.
Bet sizing against the faucet
The free faucet gives 10,000 SPUNK every 24 hours. Betting 100 per round is 1% of that balance, which survives a 20-round losing streak with room left. Betting 1,000 per round means ten busts wipes you, and at a 5x target ten consecutive busts is a 10% event. The math of Mines never ruins anyone; bet sizing does.
Why chasing tiles after a near miss does nothing
Each round generates a fresh mine layout from a server seed, your client seed and a nonce that increments by one. The tile you nearly clicked last round has no bearing on this round, and no tile position is safer than another. Corner-first, centre-first and diagonal patterns all produce identical results over any sample large enough to measure. If you want to confirm that rather than take it on faith, rotate your seed and recompute the layouts yourself using the provably fair verification steps. The layout was locked in before you clicked anything.
